Sometimes we feel like there's really nothing left. We're obviously always wrong, but it sometimes feels that way.

On this particular day that's the way we were thinking.

We made a rather arbitrary list of places we thought may be abandoned based on loose assumptions ("I don't remember seeing any cars when I drove by it two years ago") and hit the road. We saw a half dozen dead ends before making a discovery.

We were at the end of our list, looking for a hospital.

"Doesn't look very abandoned to me." Matt had said when we finally found it. I think he was annoyed that I had us chasing dead ends all day, all over the state.

Travis turned out of the extremely active hospital campus, and we drove by broken fencing with signs stating 'State Property - No Trespassing." Yes! we finally found something!

Despite our better judgement we turned into the main entrance, ignored 8 or 9 "turn back" signs and drove up the road, stopping at the security trailer, which sat in the middle of a series of small brick buildings, all obviously abandoned.

I got out and was greeted by a young, very confused security guard.

"Hi!" I said "we were just wondering if we could take some pictures."

"Of what?" he asked. I guess he's never heard that one before.

"The buildings?" I said. Now I was confused.

"It's closed." he seemed aggrivated.

"I know" I replied. "We just want to take some pictures outside"

"For what?"

"For fun."

"don't go inside."

"promise"

"park there." and with that, he shut himself back inside the trailer.

We parked where he told us to, and did just what we said we would.

One building just a few yards from the trailer was completely surrounded by brush. Travis and I had the brilliant idea of going through this, to perhaps get a better idea of the place. It took us over 20 minutes to get to the other side of the building, which was the size of a small apartment complex. We got to a very small clearing in the rear of the building and, seeing 15 feet of thorny bushes between us the fence to the building, followed by more thorns, we turned back.

It took only a few minutes to get back to the road where Matt said the security guard came by and said we had to leave. He couldn't see Travis or I, so he assumed we were inside.

We grudgingly left, sorry we had to go but happy we
