| Mini-Chronicle Metropolitan State Hospital was the first big location for Fallout. The first trip made by myself and Keith was on Christmas Day 2003. After mistaking the Gaebler School for Met State, when we actually walked up onto the grounds we were completely floored to have stumbled onto this massive institution. We continued to visit Metro for years until the demolition/renovation came down full swing in mid 2006.
Back in 2004, during the bulk of our visits security was at its peak. There were hourly security patrols, state police patrols several times a day, and it wasn't uncommon for security and police to enter into the buildings to catch explorers and curious teens that found their way into the well sealed hospital. For most seasoned metro explorers the attempts at their capture was in vain because the majority of the hospital was boarded preventing any light from getting in allowing just enough time for escape into the underground tunnel system, connecting enough buildings to make it nearly imposable for security to catch them.
As demolition began the traffic of the once very unpopular Waltham hospital spiked. With no security patrols, and the once well sealed buildings now wide open, access was easier than ever imaginable. The hospital that used to require quite a bit of tactics to even attempt entry now could now be seen by anyone and a flashlight wasn't even really necessary. Now in it's final stages of demolition, new explorers think they are the kings of urbex for concouring the remains of the defenseless hospital.
